Medical Carts Buying Guide
Choosing the Right Cart for Your Indian Hospital or Clinic

This guide covers the full spectrum of medical carts and trolleys — from mobile computer workstations and battery-powered carts to medication carts, crash carts, OT trolleys and department-specific solutions. Use it to match cart type to clinical workflow before specifying.

Scope of this guide: Broad cart selection across all cart families. For computer/workstation-specific selection, see the Computer-on-Wheels (COW) Buying Guide →

Step 1 — Identify Your Primary Use Case

Medical carts are purpose-built tools. The wrong cart family wastes capital and disrupts workflow. Start by matching your primary clinical task to a cart family below.

Computer / EMR Workstations (COW)

Mobile workstations for EMR entry, e-prescribing, ward rounds and bedside documentation. Includes basic rolling carts, battery-powered COW and powered workstation trolleys.

Step 2 — Key Selection Criteria

Once you have identified the cart family, use these criteria to narrow specification.

Power requirement

Does the cart need to power a computer, monitor or medical device? If yes, specify voltage, wattage and runtime between charges.

Mobility & environment

Ward corridor, OT, ICU or outdoor transfer? Floor type, doorway width and lift dimensions determine base, caster and footprint specification.

Surface & infection control

OT and ICU require full stainless steel or antimicrobial ABS surfaces. Standard ward carts may use powder-coated steel or ABS panels.

Drawer & storage configuration

Number of drawers, locking mechanism (key, electronic, biometric), drawer depth and top-surface working area.

Height adjustability

Fixed-height carts are more stable; pneumatic or electric height adjustment suits multi-user wards or ergonomic mandates.

Load capacity

Instrument carts and supply trolleys may need to carry 50–150 kg. Confirm rated load before specifying for heavy-use environments.

Department Application Pages

Each department page provides curated cart recommendations, layout guidance and product routing for that clinical environment.
